What is STAN?

What is STAN?

STAN is an application that focuses on improving safety around road works. The mobile application has been developed for road workers and provides specific (video) instructions, a project-related navigation tool, and real-time instructions on the road or in the workspace.

Who is it for?

Our app is aimed at road workers and contractors who prioritize safety. Whether you are in the work zone or not, the app helps everyone work together to ensure a safe environment for employees and road users.

Is this something for me?

STAN is for anyone who works on or is responsible for road safety during roadworks. The app supports you in safely organizing and carrying out work in the work zone. If safety is important to you and you want to make processes more efficient, STAN is exactly what you need.

How do I use the Digital Flashlight?

What is the Digital Flashlight?

The Digital Flashlight is a digital warning system for roadworks. Work traffic can activate this flashing light via the STAN app. This warns approaching traffic of short-term roadworks on highways and main roads. Motorists driving in the direction of the road workers receive a notification in their navigation app, alerting them to the roadworks and giving them more time to react.

What is the difference between the Digital Flashlight and the STAN app?

The Digital Flashlight is part of the STAN app, but has its own login code. It does not contain any projects, objects, or vehicles to choose from. Only the choice between the stationary or dynamic cordoning off buttons. In this way, the Digital Flashing Light is separate from the STAN projects.

How can I use the Digital Flashlight at work?

You, or the company you work for, can take out a subscription with STAN by contacting the team here. The team will provide you with a login code that you can enter in the STAN app (available for free download from the App Store or Google Play). After logging in with the code, you can immediately start using the feature. Curious about the possibilities for your company or a free trial period? Please contact the STAN team.

What should I choose, stationary or dynamic deposition?

With both buttons, the Digital Flashlight will send a message to approaching traffic, but the preconditions for this are slightly different. Choose the stationary barrier if you are working in one fixed location, for example when inspecting a structure. Choose the dynamic barrier if you are working over a longer distance, for example when placing a series of signs along the highway. The difference lies in the smart features built into STAN. For example, with a stationary closure, the Digital Flashing Light will switch itself off sooner if the phone detects that you are on the move again.

What data is collected?

We collect and process personal data from users of the STAN app during deployment. The manner of deployment determines how personal data is collected and processed. We distinguish between two types of deployment:

  1. Using the STAN app without project setup (Digital Flashlight)
  2. Using the STAN app with project setup
  1. First and last name for user identification
  2. Email address for identification, authorization, and communication with the user
  3. Organization for authorizing and identifying users for access to the digital project environment set up for the organization in question
  4. Location data to promote safety in and around the project location. The STAN app uses location data to guide users during their work. The information received can be further analyzed so that we can provide insight into traffic flows around and within the work area. Based on this information, bottlenecks can be identified and plans made to improve infrastructure and safety

To use the application, the user has two options for logging in, each of which collects a different amount of personal data.

1.   Log in with account

2.   Log in with project or login code

  1. Location data to promote safety in and around the project site. The STAN app uses location data to guide users during their work. The information received can be further analyzed so that we can provide insight into traffic flows around and within the work area. Based on this information, bottlenecks can be identified and plans made to improve infrastructure and safety.

Where is my personal data stored?

The above-mentioned data is stored and processed via a secure connection in a database server within the EU. STAN processes the data from the app for statistical analysis and management reporting purposes. Based on these analyses and reports, decisions are made, products and services are evaluated, and the effectiveness of projects is assessed. User data is used at an aggregated level for this purpose. Aggregated means that the data does not contain information about individual users, but only information about certain groups.

How long will my data be stored?

STAN stores the data for as long as necessary to achieve the purposes/projects for which user data is processed. In the case of location data, the retention period is two months. The final retention period varies depending on the type of personal data. At the end of the retention period, your personal data will be anonymized or deleted.

Why am I being asked for my personal information?

All personal data is processed in the context of our services. It is in our legitimate interest and necessary to process data for the performance of the contract with you or your organization in order to promote your safety and that of others during road works. Creating a safe working environment is part of the proper performance of the employment contract. Location data is vital in the event of emergencies. The STAN app provides users with up-to-date safety information and safety instructions in order to increase the safety of those present in and around the work area and to prevent accidents.
